Psycho Motel Vol.1 (2010-2011) FREE COMPILATION!

At Psycho Motel IV: “Gods & Monsters Party”, shortly before the end of  Psy Mo’s residence at now mythical ‘creative space’ Don’t Drop the Dumbells, we compiled a killer mixtape featuring almost every band who had played at Psycho Motel to date! The night before the show, we burned as many copies as we could manage onto CD-R – hastily photocopied a bunch of sleeves (re-using Becky Boneshaker’s artwork from the very first Psy Mo poster) and handed them out on the door to anyone who would have ‘em…

The comp was jolly well received, of course, as it contained some fine and varied examples of dirty garage (Dick Venom, Kid Voodoo); dark psychedaelia (Black Moth, El Toro!); modern rockabilly (Raw Bones, X Ray Cat Trio); electro punk (Louis Lingg, Bad Taste Barbies); and the virtually unclassifiable (Long Finger Bandits, Phlegmings the Singin’ Bellboy); plus an exclusive, unreleased track from the mighty Zombina and the Skeletones, making it a perfect time-capsule of Psycho Motel’s first era (2010-2011)!

That was then, however, and this is most definitely now… Arrive early to Psy Mo XI: “Enchantment Under the Sea Dance” (Friday 30th March at the Kazimier), and you’ll receive a FREE copy of Psycho Motel Vol.2 – “The Second Comping”, which will no doubt be twice the classic that the first volume was!

What’s that? You weren’t around in the ‘Dumbells’ days? Want to be able to pretend you were? Well, you’re in luck – as you can download the original Psycho Motel Vol.1 comp below…
Psycho Motel Vol.1
1. Phlegmings the Singin’ Bellboy – “Theme from Psycho Motel”

Legendary Shack Shakers at Psycho Motel 25/04/12

Wednesday 25th April 2012, Psycho Motel Presents: “The Legendary Shack Shakers in Psycho Mo-Hoedown!”
Psycho Motel sacrifices it’s usual weekend slot to bring you an incredibly special performance from one of the finest goddamn rock n’ roll bands in the world right now! We’re excited to reveal that TH' LEGENDARY SHACK SHAKERS from Nashville Tennessee are checking in to the Motel to promote their new album “AgriDustrial”. The Shack Shakers play an awesomely varied mixture of country, gypsy, blues, punk and rockabilly, and are literally so ‘legendary’ that bullet points have suddenly become necessary…
  • Their guitarist, Duane Denison was a founding member of two other classic US alternative acts - The Jesus Lizard and Tomahawk! And before he joined the Shakers he was playing guitar for Hank Williams III (who once called them the best band in America)!!!
  •   Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedy’s called their lead vocalist/blues harpist, JD Wilkes “The last great rock n’ roll frontman”, and made a guest appearance on their 2006 album “Pandelerium"!!!
  • Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin named their “Believe” album his favourite of 2005, and took them on tour as his support band!!!
  • Their track “Swampblood” appears on the soundtrack of top vampire soap, Tru-Blood!!!
…and if that weren’t exciting enough, we’ve got support from El Toro! (The Ventures meets post-punk from Liverpool and San Diego, feat. Members of Zombina and the Skeletones and Pete Bentham and the Dinnerladies) and TheLoose Moose String Band (traditional scouse bluegrass and skiffle) and all the usual Psycho Motel sundries, such as the inimitable cabaret oddness of our accordion slingin’ bellboy – Phlemings! …and we got southern gothic flavoured DJ sets from the Psycho Motel gang! Plus the inevitable barndance dresscode = MOST EXCITING PSYCHO MOTEL EVENT EVER!!!
Tickets £6 from Curious Orange or £7.50 on the door. Doors open 8pm.

If you're not familiar with the work of the Shack Shakers, here's our top picks...

...that's the tune we mentioned that features Mr Biafra (though you'll have to listen hard!)

This one demonstrates their more laid back gothic country style...

...and here's one that's been on the Psycho Motel playlist since the beginning! Maybe you recognise?
Just thinking about it makes us feel all funny.
DO. NOT. MISS. THIS.

Psycho Motel XI 30/03/12

Great Scott! On Friday the 30th March 2012, Liverpool’s finest haunted hotel/rock n’ roll trash night returns to The Kazimier with a multi-faceted theme party featuring a 3-pronged dress code that includes nautical, 50’s high school prom and 80’s time travel movies all at once! Plus the exclusive Motel DJ team of GoodGuy Joe, Becky Boneshaker, Doc Horror (Zombina and the Skeletones) and Ida Ghostique spinning punk, gothic, outsider and oldies… and some lucky boy and girl will get the dubious honour of being crowned king and queen of the underwater 50’s 80’s… if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!

9pm start!

Psycho Motel Micro with EL TORO! 16/03/12

Hi, gang! Do you ever feel like there's just not enough Psycho Motel type action going on in Liverpool? Get bored waiting for the next Kazimier party to roll around? Well, check this out, kids! On Friday 16th March, we invite you to join us at Basement 20 (below 'The Lyrics Lounge' on Hardman St.) for the first of our streamlined spin-off events that shall henceforth be known as... PSYCHO MOTEL MICRO!
Garage Surf monsters (and Psy Mo regulars) EL TORO! return for their first gig of 2012, and they've finally got that drummer problem sorted! Enter Gabrielle Dos Santos (Town Bike, Dinnerladies) on the hot seat. This will also be the first chance to hear a bunch of their new tunes before their E.P release this spring!!
"El Toro! A Liverpudlian quartet who cross Link Wray and the Ventures with the Sonics and The cramps for a sweaty set of '60's snarl and grind rockers. Anthemic shouters like "I wanna Know" and "The Note" mingle seamlessly with the big phat twangin' instro "The Boss Sound", while "Vendetta" wears it's white punks on surf charm on it's sleeve..." - SHINDIG MAGAZINE

...plus - we've somehow managed to pin down punk rock renegade globe trotters THE DEAD CLASS, check out the video below to get some sort of clue about how these rowdy bastards do business!!

...and that's not all... oh no! Those demented rockabillys RAW BONES will be opening the festivities with their twisted rock n' roll noize!!! Roll on!!!!

...an' we got DJs, of course, in the form of Psycho Motel's resident artist BECKY BONESHAKER and our pal RIGGY, a collector of unusual sounds, will be blasting you with all the best in garage, psyche-billy, weirdo and scary 'til the wee hours!

All this for just 2 quid!?
